Logical Fallacies

4/30/2016

The logical fallacy called “Argument of Ignorance” is often used in the debating process. It appeals to ignorance, where a lack of contrary evidence is used to “prove” the argument is true because it has not been proven to be false or the reverse. The trouble with this assertion is that it excludes other options not only the choice between true and false. It could also mean that the answer is unkown or unknowable (Wikipedia). This is often used to shift the burden of proof. Here are some examples I ran into when debating with others.
-When one spots many UFOs (Unidentified Flying  Objects) and  then conclude that they are Alien spaceships.
-That if one cannot proof there is no God, it is evidence that there is one.
-That without evidence that a miracle has not occurred, it is proof that it was one.
-That if you cannot prove that a psychic talked to the dead is fakery, it must be a true ability.
In all of those cases, it is a “shift of the burden of proof”, When one makes an assertion then it is up to that person making the claim that they have evidence of their conclusion, not the other way around. In all of these cases the answer could be “unknown” or “unknowable” and therefor no conclusion can be drawn either way.

Kim jong-un is a God?

4/21/2016

An article in the Washington Post reported that a North Korean publication stated that Billy Graham’s sun, Franklin, declared that the supreme leader Kim-Jong-un of North Korea was a God. This claim is obviously a total fabrication to convince North Koreans that prominent Christian Leaders support the claims of the Government. Nothing could be farther from the truth. History, especially in Asia, has often regarded their leaders as God. Even up to the end of WWII the Japanese emperor was considered God. When reading the ancient books it is obvious that the biblical god in the old testament is modeled on the old emperors. These leaders were almighty, unquestionalble and omnipotent, you must obey them or you will be severely punished, killed or banned from the kingdom. When you approach them, because of the fear of assassination, you must kneel so you can’t run at them. Fold or show open hands to  indicate you carry no weapons, take of your headgear, bow your head to be totally vulnerable. Any request (prayer) can be totally useless but must be accepted without questioning. Total loyalty is required. Yes the OT God is based on the leaders of kingdoms and tribes which existed even before written history became widespread as careful reading of the Bible will show.

Afraid of Hell?

4/11/2016

For those people who are afraid of Hell, read you Bible and find out that the concept of Hell as an eternal fire, is not in the Bible. When God spoke to Adam and Eve after they ate from the tree, he said (Gen 3: 19)
By the sweat of your face, you shall get bread to eat,
until you return to the ground from which you were taken.
For you are dirt and to dirt you shall return.
This says nothing about eternal punishment or Hell. In the last part of Gen 3:21  God says
The man has become like one of us, knowing what is good and what is bad! Therefor, he must not be allowed to put out his hand to take fruit from the tree of life also and thus eat of it and live forever.
These two passages, if you believe the Bible is he word of God, clearly states that the punishment is to forego eternal life and that you die and become dirt, again there is nothing stated about eternal punishment.

There is another contradiction here. If eating from the tree makes you live forever “thus eat from it and live forever” Adam and Eve should live forever but God is punishing them by taking that possibility away.
The conclusion is clear. The punishment is: no eternal life but death, not eternal burning in Hell. The word “Hell” is a wrong translation for the original “Sheol” or “Hades” meaning “grave” and “forgetfulness” in the OT and in the NT “Gehenna” , also translated as Hell is actually an existing burning trash heap outside Jerusalem, which burned dead bodies. This  trash heap burns all the time but the bodies were burned there for total destruction. (Biblegate.com/quicksearch, look up “Hell” in the “expanded Bible EXB”). I also recommend the book  titled “Why You Won’t Go To Hell” available at Amazon.com
NOTE: You may use this post to answer any person who is declaring you are going to hell as a unbeliever.

Is There a Higher Intelligence

4/7/2016

Is there a higher intelligence than our human one? The odds are favorable for its existence. The universe is immensely vast and really so big it defies our imagination. Conditions for life are extremely rare. Most of the universe is actually quite hostile to life, but in a few places, because of the enormous size of it, life can develop. It is not believable that this occurred only once, here on earth. At the odds of a trillion to one, for example, there would be still billions of stars with the conditions needed for life, so chances are that intelligent life also developed elsewhere is a viable hypothesis. Since the level of intelligence varies greatly in the human population, there is a distinct possibility that there are beings that have a greater intelligence than ours somewhere in the universe. This is a reasonable conclusion we can make because of the observation of the vastness of the universe and the fact that intelligence evolved here, Now let us stop here. There are no further observations that we can apply. Any ‘conclusions’ about an Intelligent Designer or Aliens are just unwarranted speculations. To think that an ‘Intelligence’ existed before the universe was created, does defy logic. Why would a ‘designer’, outside of the question, where did he/she come from, create a Universe which is 99.9999…% hostile to life? Why so big? One solar system would have been sufficient.
The notion that Aliens exist is far more plausible as we have outlined above, but to speculate that they are here and flying around is, so far, without any real proof as well. UFOs are unidentified, that’s all. The facts are that because of the limited light speed and the fast distances the probability that any of the UFOs are alien spaceships is very low and until we have definite proof, we must discount the possibility. To day it has become a very profitable industry to make us believe they are here, but there is no factual evidence to that effect, so let’s not jump to conclusions.
