The bible is a great historical book, and like all historical books we can learn how religion has influenced humanity, some times positively but also negatively. It is interesting that Religion utilizes the Fear of God to control their flock. A big part of the fear of the Christian religion, by convincing us that the original sin condemns us, is that we need to be “saved”. On the 6th day God created mankind in his own image (Genesis1:27) Then he rested (Ge.2-3) Next he created Adam from the dust of the ground after the seventh day. Adam then begot Eve and they sinned , therefor only the offspring of Adam & Eve have the original sin. The rest of Humanity, created on the 6th day, were free of the original sin “and God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good” (Genesis 1:31). Later he changed his mind about these sin-less people, created in his own image (genesis 6; 1-7). God didn’t like these people (didn’t like his own image?), so he killed them all off during the great flood and only sinners (descendants of Adam & Eve) were saved on the ark.
A plausible explanation of the difference between Genesis 1 and 2 is that they reflect two different earlier creation stories which the writer (Moses) of Genesis recorded, one that does not contain the Adam/Eve story and one that does.
