Another “scientific” explanation of the “there must be a designer” speculation blown out of the water.
The religious people insist that the odds of life starting by chance is extra ordinary large (a”gazillion” to one) so that it is impossible to have happened because the universe is not old enough, and therefor there must be a designer to start life. As I have pointed out before that is a complete misunderstanding of “probability”. I does not take a “gazillion draws” to get a winner. The winning number could be drawn tomorrow. Secondly the chances of drawing a winner depends on the number of “tickets” sold. The number of “tickets” in the universe, the chemical reactions taking place on habitable planets in the universe every millisecond is also “gazillions” so chances are that a winner could happen every day from the first day that these planets formed. In the time that the universe has existed there could be only one winner or multiple winners. So far we only know for sure there was one, us. Perhaps we will find another winner or multiple winners in the future, we will see. To those who don’t understand “Probability” I suggest you study it. A popular book: “The Improbability Principle, why Coincidences, Miracles and Rare Events happen Every Day” by Statistician & Mathematician David J. Hand. might help to start your study.
